The 104 Mile Bike Ride with a Film Point-and-Shoot Camera / by Rugile Kaladyte

This past Sunday, Trevor and I rode 104 miles, mainly because we wanted to see if we could and because the weather was perfect. At mile 5, I got a flat. My mom gave me this point-and-shoot film camera and I found that it fit really nicely in my jersey pocket. This was my first experience using this type of camera and it was remarkable; I felt completely relaxed and found myself experimenting. I had no idea what any of the photos would look like and it was exciting to have that element of surprise.

We rode to Letchworth State Park and climbed a total of 4,731ft. In the future, I won't be taking photos while going 35mph downhill.

Enjoying the scenic, winding roads of Letchworth State Park.

After 50 miles of riding and 3,000ft. of climbing. Very strategic route planning by Trevor to get the bulk of the climbing out of the way. I was very curious to see how well the film would read the shadows, especially since it was an old roll and had been in the camera for over 18 months.

Climbing, climbing, and climbing.

Climbing, climbing, and climbing.

Last photo on the roll of film. Enjoying much deserved pasta at mile 70.
